At Manor Lodge Dental Practice, we offer dentures as a removable option for our patients looking to replace missing teeth.

What are dentures?

Dentures are a fairly common, and very popular way to replace a missing tooth or teeth – you may also know them as ‘prosthetic teeth’ or even ‘false teeth’. Made up of either an acrylic or cobalt chrome base and a set of prosthetic teeth, they can either be applied as a full set or as a partial set.

What are partial dentures?

Partial dentures can be used to replace a few missing teeth, rather than a whole arch. They are attached to the surrounding natural teeth via a metal clasp and just like full dentures, can be removed for cleaning.

What are full dentures?

Full dentures are designed to replace a full arch or row of teeth. They are comprised of an acrylic or chrome base that is made to appear like your gums. When replacing an upper arch, they also feature a plate that covers the roof of the mouth, while lower dentures rest over the gums in a horseshoe-like shape.

What is the treatment process like?

Receiving dentures usually happens over a few months, and will involve multiple appointments with us here at the practice. We’ll first start by taking measurements of the teeth and mouth, as well as impressions or digital scans. These will be sent off to a dental laboratory, where they will make your dentures for you.

When they’re ready to be worn, you’ll come back into the practice to have them fitted and we’ll make sure the fit, comfort, and bite are all correct. We’ll also go over how to take care of your dentures. At Manor Lodge Dental Practice, we’re proud to be able to offer denture treatment with our clinical dental technician who will take care of the making of your dentures from start to finish.

How should I take care of my dentures?

Dentures need to be cleaned regularly, and you should be careful to clean them throughout the day, especially after every meal. We also recommend soaking them at least once a week in a cleansing solution that can help minimise and prevent staining.

How long do dentures last?

With proper care, dentures can last 5-10 years.

How will I know if I need to replace my dentures?

When wearing dentures, you should continue to come in for regular dental check-ups with us here at the practice. Doing so will help us keep an eye on whether your dentures are in need of repair or replacement, and can also help them last longer. Natural ageing means that your mouth and gums change shape, which can affect your dentures, leaving them feeling uncomfortable and less secure. They can also cause mouth sores and in some cases, infection.
