We can use a single tooth dental implant to replace a single missing – or soon to be extracted – tooth. We always recommend replacing a missing tooth or teeth wherever possible, as it is crucial to the long-term oral health and wellbeing of a patient. With a single tooth dental implant, patients are receiving the most natural-looking, stable, and comfortable replacement for a natural tooth.

How does it work?

A single tooth dental implant is made up of the implant itself, which is usually made of titanium. Designed to act as the new root for the tooth, this titanium peg will be implanted into the jaw before having a prosthetic tooth fixed atop it.

What is the treatment journey like?

The treatment for receiving a single tooth dental implant can take several months. We’ll first have to start with a consultation during which we’ll ascertain whether you’re a suitable candidate for an implant via X-ray. This is because there has to be a certain amount of healthy jawbone present to safely accept the implant.

Once this has been determined, you’ll return to the practice to receive the implant. We understand that a treatment such as this can be daunting for some patients, but we will always first administer a local anaesthetic so you don’t feel a thing. We’re also able to offer sedation services if needed, which will feel as though you are being put into a dream-like state.

Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, we’ll fix the titanium implant into the jaw. We’ll then have to wait a few months while the jawbone and implant successfully fuse together – we can apply a temporary crown at this point if necessary. Once the jaw and implant have safely fused, you’ll be able to return to the practice to receive your personal prosthetic tooth.
