At Manor Lodge Dental Practice, we provide comprehensive periodontic care to our patients to help maintain and promote their gum health and hygiene.

What is periodontics?

Periodontics is the field of dentistry concerned with the gums, and the other structures that support the teeth. Maintaining the health and hygiene of the gums is a central component of our preventive care measures, and is paramount in promoting the overall oral health and hygiene of our patients. 

Periodontic treatments range from the periodontal assessment and maintenance that we offer at regular check-ups, and in appointments with our experienced and highly trained hygienists to treatment and surgeries. For example, we’re also able to offer crown lengthening and root resection.

What other treatment do you offer?

We’re also able to treat recessive gums through periodontal mucogingival surgeries. Recession is often caused by periodontitis, or in some cases might be necessary due to developmental anatomy. It can cause increased sensitivity, especially at the root of the tooth and can be unsightly for the patient, or effect the potential success of other dental treatments. In these situations, we might recommend mucogingival surgery, which involves taking a small amount of gum from the palate and grafting it to the area being treated.

At Manor Lodge Dental Practice, we’re also able to perform periodontal open flap debridement and regenerative surgeries. Open flap debridement – also referred to as open flap curettage – is used to help treat gums affected by periodontitis. In this, the gum is lifted away from the tooth and surrounding bone which are then cleaned and curetted to remove the disease and deposits. At this stage, we may also need to contour remaining bone and can perform both bone grafts and tissue regeneration to help in the healing.
