There are a variety of different reasons as to why we might recommend the placement of a crown. Some of the most common include:
Crowns can be made of a variety of different materials, but some of the most popular include gold and porcelain – or a mixture of both. They can also be made of metal alloy, and more recently of composite resin.
Crowns are usually placed over two appointments. At the first appointment, we’ll prepare the tooth for the crown and take a mould or digital scan of the tooth. This will then be sent off to the dental laboratory, where your crown will be made specially for you. Once ready, you’ll return here to have the crown fitted and cemented into place, during which time we’ll check to make sure the fit and bite are correct. We’ll also be able to place a temporary crown while you’re waiting for your personal crown to be made.
