Crown - Gold

Classic durability with timeless charm.

Gold crowns are renowned for their strength and longevity, offering a durable restoration that resists wear and protects opposing teeth. Their distinctive appearance and biocompatibility make them a reliable choice for back teeth.

At Manor Lodge Dental Practice, we can use crowns to help repair and restore a tooth that has been significantly damaged due to decay, injury, or wear and tear.

What is a crown?

Designed to be placed over a tooth, a crown works as a kind of cap – or ‘crown’ – for a damaged tooth and is fixed in place with dental cement or an adhesive.

Why might I need a crown?

There are a variety of different reasons as to why we might recommend the placement of a crown. Some of the most common include:

  • To restore a chipped or broken tooth

  • To repair a tooth that has been weakened in some way

  • To cover a discoloured or misshapen tooth

  • To fully restore a tooth after a root canal treatment

  • To place a dental bridge

  • To repair a tooth with a large cavity or deep filling

What are crowns made of?

Crowns can be made of a variety of different materials, but some of the most popular include gold and porcelain – or a mixture of both. They can also be made of metal alloy, and more recently of composite resin.

What is the treatment process like?

Crowns are usually placed over two appointments. At the first appointment, we’ll prepare the tooth for the crown and take a mould or digital scan of the tooth. This will then be sent off to the dental laboratory, where your crown will be made specially for you. Once ready, you’ll return here to have the crown fitted and cemented into place, during which time we’ll check to make sure the fit and bite are correct.
